Starr's Drum On Display In New York
The Metropolitan Museum of Art has launched a Ringo Starr exhibit in honor of the rocker's 70th birthday. Broadway.com reports that the Manhattan museum will initiate a display of Starr's gold-plated snare drum in its Musical Instruments Gallery. Starr is lending the museum the fabled piece, which was a gift to him when The Beatles toured through Chicago in 1964. Jayson Kerr Dobney, the Met's associate curator, commented quote, "This special presentation drum, made for the most influential drummer of a generation, and representing the highest-end production of the most important drum manufacturer of the 20th century-holds iconic stature." The drum will remain on display at the museum through December.
Ringo was born in Liverpool, England on July 7, 1940. The eldest of The Beatles, he's the first of the famed rockers to hit their seventies. Sir Paul McCartney won't turn 70 until until June 18th, 2012. Had they lived, John Lennon would have hit 70 this October 9th and George Harrison would have observed the milestone on February 25th, 2013.
